Kazakhstan’s New Prime Minister named Alikhan Smailov

• Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev nominated Alikhan Smailov for Prime Minister on January 11, 2022.

• Alikhan Smailov (49) served as the first Deputy Prime Minister in the previous cabinet.

• Kazakhstan officially the Republic of Kazakhstan is a country located mainly in Central Asia. It borders Russia in the north and west, China in the east, and Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan in the south. 

• The capital is Nur-Sultan, formerly known as Astana.
