- Eminent Assamese poet Nilamani Phukan was awarded the 56th Jnanpith Award on 11 April.
- The Jnanpith Award ceremony was held in Assam for the first time.
- Trophies, checks and mementos were handed over to the 88-year-old eminent poet.
- Nilamani Phukan Mamoni is the third person from Assam to win the Jnanpith Award after Raisom Goswami and Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya.
- The award carries a citation, a shawl and Rs 11 lakh.
