- India and the United States signed the Investment Promotion Agreement (IIA) in Tokyo, Japan.
- This Investment Promotion Agreement replaces the Investment Promotion Agreement signed by both the countries in the year 1997.
- Significant developments have taken place since the signing of the erstwhile IIA in 1997, such as the establishment of a new organization called the Development Finance Corporation (DFC).
- DFC has been appointed as the successor agency of the erstwhile Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) following the enactment of the recent United States law, the Build Act 2018.
- To harmonize with feasibility studies for potential projects and grants, such as loans, equity investments, investment guarantees, investment insurance or reinsurance, offered by DFC for additional investment support programs.
