Forest (Conservation) Rules, 2022


  • The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has released the Forest (Conservation) Rules, 2022.
  • This is provided in section 4 of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 and the supersession of the Forest (Conservation) Rules, 2003.
  • It constituted an advisory committee, a regional empowered committee in each of the integrated regional offices and a screening committee at the State/Union Territory (UT) government level.
  • According to the India Forest Status Report-2021, the total forest and tree cover area of ​​India is now 7,13,789 square kilometres, which is 21.71% of the country's geographical area, up from 21.67% in 2019.
  • Forest cover (in area): Madhya Pradesh > Arunachal Pradesh > Chhattisgarh > Odisha > Maharashtra.
