Kargil Vijay Diwas

  • India celebrates the Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, every year. The day is celebrated to mark India’s victory in Kargil War, that it fought with Pakistan.  Year 2022 marked the 23rd anniversary of India’s victory.
  • To mark India’s victory over and sacrifices of soldiers during the Kargil war.
  • Kargil war was fought between Mat 1999 to July 1999 in Kargil-Drass sector of Jammu & Kashmir.
  • The troops from Pakistan had illegally invaded some regions of along the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistan was positioned over the mountain tops of Northern Kargil District in Ladakh.
  • To regain its control over the region, Indian Army launched the “Operation Vijay”.
  • Finally, on July 26, 1999, Indian soldiers recaptured several mountains in the Himalayas of Kashmir region, that Pakistani intruders had captured.
