49th Chief Justice of the country


  • Justice Uday Umesh Lalit of the Supreme Court took oath as the 49th Chief Justice of the country.
  • The country's President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to him as the CJI.
  • The 74-day tenure of Justice UU Lalit will begin from today.
  • The tenure of UU Lalit will be for a total of 74 days (till 8 November 2022).
  •  Justice Lalit will retire as CJI after 74 days on November 8.
  • After this, Justice Chandrachud will be appointed as the 50th Chief Justice. His term will be for two full years.
