- UK Foreign Minister Liz Truss has been elected as the next Prime Minister of Britain and the leader of the governing Conservative Party.
- After a grueling six-week campaign, Liz defeated her rival, former finance minister Rishi Sunak, by 81,326 votes to 60,399.
- Liz Truss is the 56th Prime Minister of Britain and the third woman Prime Minister to lead the country.
- The previous female prime ministers – Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May – were also from the Conservative Party.
