Constitution Day

• Constitution Day is celebrated every year on 26 November.

• It is also known as Constitution Day or National Law Day.

•  This day is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the constitution.

•  The Constitution of India was adopted on November 26, 1949, it came into effect on January 26, 1950 and hence India celebrates Republic Day on January 26.

• It is celebrated to assess the law and justice in the country.

• It helps in strengthening the judiciary system in the country.

•  The day celebrates the freedom of the legal profession.

• For these reasons, Constitution Day is celebrated as National Law Day.

• National Law Day was not celebrated till 1979. Dr. L.M. Under the leadership of Singhvi, the Supreme Court Bar Association had proposed to celebrate National Law Day on 26 November.
