Croatia adopts Euro as its official currency

  • Croatia adopted the euro as its official currency on 1 January 2023.
  • The euro will gradually replace the local currency, the kuna. The conversion rate for 7.53450 Croatian Kuna is 1 Euro.
  • Croatia has entered the club of borderless Europe and has become the 27th country in the passport-free Schengen Area.
  • The Schengen Area area facilitates free and unrestricted movement of people.
  • It became the 20th member of the Eurozone and the first expansion of the Eurozone since 2015.
  • Adoption of the euro will help Croatia's economy at a time when inflation is on the rise around the world.
  • There is a fear that adopting the euro could increase the cost of living as prices increase when businesses convert them.
  • Euro is commonly used in Croatia and around 80% of bank deposits are in Euro.
