"INS Vagir" commissioned into the Indian Navy

  • The fifth Kalvari submarine "INS Vagir" was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 23 January.
  • The submarine "INS Vagir" has been built in India by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai in collaboration with France based M/s Naval Group.
  • Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar commissioned this submarine.
  • The time taken to build Vagir is the shortest among all the submarines built so far.
  • Four Kalvari class submarines have already been inducted into the Indian Navy.
  • On 01 Nov 1973, the erstwhile Vagir was commissioned and undertook a number of operational missions including preventive patrolling.
  • The submarine was decommissioned on 07 January 2001 after serving the nation for nearly three decades.
  • The submarine was handed over to the Indian Navy by M/s MDL on 20 Dec 22.
