PM Modi inaugurated the new Parliament House

  • The building is a part of the redevelopment of the Central Vista project.
  • On December 10, 2020, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of this new Parliament building.
  • The project was earlier targeted to be completed by October 2022, but got delayed due to various reasons.
  • It will have a built-up area of approximately 65,000 square metres.
  • It will include Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Central Hall Joint Session, Central Lounge, Constitutional Hall and offices.
  • The building is triangular in shape and will have a lifespan of more than 150 years.
  • It can seat 888 members in the chamber of the lower house and 300 members in the chamber of the upper house.
  • In September 2020, the contract for the construction of the new Parliament House was awarded to Tata Projects at an estimated cost of Rs 862 crore.
  • However, the cost of the project crossed Rs 1000 crore.
