- Joseph Tsai, executive vice president and co-founder of Alibaba , has been appointed chairman.
- Joseph Tsai will replace Daniel Zhang as chairman.
- Eddie Wu, chairman of e-commerce unit Taobao and Tmall Group, will replace Zhang as chief executive officer of Alibaba.
- Both appointments will be effective in September and Zhang will continue to serve as chairman and CEO of Alibaba's cloud unit.
- In March, the company was announced that they were splitting into six separate units including cloud, e-commerce, logistics, media and entertainment.
