- An online dredging monitoring system named "Sagar Samriddhi" was launched to give impetus to the Centre's "Waste to Wealth" initiative.
- The system has been developed by the National Technology Center for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC), the technical arm of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
- New technology has been developed to improve upon the old system of Draft and Loading Monitor (DLM) system.
- The system will bring coordination between processing multiple input reports such as daily pre and post dredging survey data and generate real time dredging reports.
- This will help in reducing the operational cost of the ports.
- Presently, Cochin and Mumbai ports have adopted the "Sagar Samridhi" monitoring system. New Mangalore Port and Deendayal Port are running it on a trial basis.
