• The theme for World Refugee Day 2023 is "Hope Away from Home".

• The day was first observed on 20 June 2001 to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention, which helped protect refugees.

• It was originally known as Africa Refugee Day. But after the United Nations General Assembly recognized this day in December 2000, it came to be known as World Refugee Day.
