Chandrayaan-3 successfully launched

  • Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched Chandrayaan-3 weighing 3,897.89 kg from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh by Indian rocket LVM3.
  • Chandrayaan-3 will make the second attempt to land a spacecraft on the Moon.
  • Chandrayaan-3 will cover a distance of 3.84 lakh km. It will reach the Moon after a journey of 42 days.
  • The mission's Vikram lander is expected to soft-land on the surface of the Moon's south pole region around August 23 or August 24.
  • Chandrayaan-3 mission will explore the South Pole region of the Moon.
  • Chandrayaan-3 has been built for Rs 615 crore.
  • The Chandrayaan-3 mission consists of an indigenous Lander Module (LM), Propulsion Module (PM) and a Rover.
  • The rocket will eject the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft at an altitude of about 179 km.
  • The spacecraft will orbit the Earth about 5-6 times in an elliptical orbit.
