  • Recently the Heat Index has been launched by the India Meteorological Department on an experimental basis.
  • The heat index will provide general guidance for areas where temperatures will be higher.
  • The heat index will provide information on the effect of humidity on high temperatures and the temperature felt by humans.
  • It is being implemented in the entire country including Andhra Pradesh.
  • The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with local agencies has prepared a heat index for Bhubaneshwar and Ahmedabad under the Heat Action Plan.
