- International Tiger Day is celebrated across the world on 29 July every year.
- The day was adopted in 2010 during the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia.
- This year India also celebrated 50 years of Project Tiger.
- India first launched Project Tiger on April 1, 1973 under the leadership of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
- According to the statistics of the Government of India, there are currently about 3000 tigers in India, which is 70 percent of the tiger population in the world.
