• On Kargil Vijay Diwas, the nation honors the martyrs and remembers its wartime heroes.

• On this day, in 1999, under Operation Vijay, the Indian Armed Forces repelled insurgents supported by the Pakistan Army from high positions in the Kargil sector.

• The Kargil War was fought for more than 60 days and ended with India gaining control of all the territory.

• During the war, the Indian Army recaptured strategic peaks including Tololing, Tiger Hill and Point 4875.

• The victory at Tiger Hill was one of the important achievements in the struggle which lasted for 60 days.
