  • World Lung Cancer Day is observed every year on 1 August.
  • It is celebrated to raise awareness about lung cancer and its early detection.
  • It was first observed in 2012 by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies in association with the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) and the American College of Chest Physicians.
  • The number of cancer cases in India may increase from 1.46 million in 2022 to 1.57 million in 2025.
  • In 2020, about 1.8 million people died from lung cancer, which is almost double the number of cancer deaths due to colorectal cancer.
  • The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization has marked November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
  • The IASLC World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) is the largest organization dealing with lung cancer.
