- On 9 October, parts of Hong Kong were flooded as Typhoon Koinu caused torrential rain overnight.

- According to the Hong Kong Observatory, Koinu was moving west-southwest at about 10 kilometers per hour (6 mph) as it crossed the west coast of China's Guangdong province.
- China's national forecaster issued storm and typhoon warnings and suspended schools in various districts of Guangdong, including the city of Zhuhai.
