First woman Subedar of Indian Army


  • On 28 January, Havildar Preeti Rajak was promoted to the rank of Subedar in the Indian Army and became the first woman to hold the post.
  • Subedar Rajak, who is a champion trap shooter, joined the Army in the Military Police Corps in December 2022.
  • She was the first meritorious sportsperson enrolled in the Army as a Havildar in the shooting discipline.
  • Rajak had won a silver medal in the trap women's team event during the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China.
  • On the basis of his exceptional performance he was awarded the first out-of-turn promotion to the rank of Subedar.
