- Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully conducted four flight trials of High-Speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) - Abhyas from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, Odisha.
- Flight tests were conducted with four different mission objectives in the modified powered configuration. For this, a single booster designed by Advanced Systems Laboratory, Hyderabad was used.
- Objectives such as safe release of the booster, launcher clearance and required launch velocity were achieved.
- Various parameters such as required endurance, speed, maneuverability, altitude and range were successfully validated during flight trials.
- ‘Abhyas’ has been designed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) of DRDO. It has been designed for autonomous flight with the help of an autopilot indigenously manufactured by ADE.
- It has systems to increase radar cross section, visual and infrared required for weapons practice.
