India's first underwater metro

  • PM Modi inaugurated India's first underwater metro service in Kolkata.
  • The metro will take 45 seconds to cover the distance of 520 meters under the Hooghly river.
  • The tunnel is part of the East-West Metro Corridor of Kolkata Metro connecting Howrah Maidan to Esplanade.
  • PM Modi also inaugurated Kavi Subhash-Hemant Mukhopadhyay and Taratala-Majerhat section of Kolkata Metro.
  • Howrah Metro station is the deepest metro station in India. It is 33 meters below the surface.
  • Majerhat Metro Station is an elevated metro station. It will also include a canal.
