• The first International Zero Waste Day was observed by the United Nations on 30 March 2023.

• International Zero Waste Day brings attention to the importance of supporting and improving waste management globally.

• It also highlights the need to support and encourage sustainable consumption and production patterns.

• On 14 December 2022, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution to declare 30 March as International Zero Waste Day.

• International Zero Waste Day is made possible by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat).
