New chairman of World Health Assembly Committee A

• Apurva Chandra has been appointed Chair of Committee A at the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA).

• Apurva Chandra is the Union Health Secretary, Government of India.

• India chairs Committee A of the WHA. It is being held in Geneva from May 27 to June 1.

• Committee A is tasked with facilitating important discussions on several programme themes.

• The World Health Assembly consists of sessions of three main committees. These are the Plenary, Committee A and Committee B.

• India's chairmanship of Committee A will continue till June 1.
