  • National Milk Day is celebrated every year on November 26th in honor of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the architect of India's White Revolution.
  • Dr. Verghese Kurien is considered the father of the Indian dairy industry, and his hard work and leadership brought about a historic transformation in milk production in India. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Amul brand, which is now India's largest dairy brand.

White Revolution and Dr. Verghese Kurien's Contribution:

White Revolution: Under Dr. Kurien's leadership, India initiated the White Revolution in 1970, known as "Operation Flood." It was a large-scale initiative to promote milk production, which eventually led to India becoming the largest milk producer in the world.

Amul: Dr. Kurien shaped the Amul Dairy Cooperative, which functions as a cooperative network for small farmers. Amul not only ensured fair prices for India's milk producers but also provided a stable income for local farmers.

Agriculture and Food Security: Dr. Kurien's work was not limited to the dairy industry. He also ensured India's food security. His efforts gave a new direction to the agricultural sector in India.
