Bhutan's royal honour to Indian educationist Arun Kapoor

  • On December 17, Arun Kapur, a renowned Indian educationist who has set up schools in India, Bhutan and Oman, was honoured by Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyal.
  • He was awarded the ‘Bura Marp’ (red scarf) and ‘Patang’ (ceremonial sword) during the 117th Bhutanese National Day celebrations at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu.
  • The honour is rarely given to non-Bhutanese residents and is accompanied by the honorific title ‘Dasho’, which is otherwise used for senior officials.
  • In 2019, Mr Kapur was also awarded the ‘Druk Thuksey’ for his work in setting up The Royal Academy School and developing the Bhutan Baccalaureate educational system.
