New chairman of UN Internal Justice Council

  • Justice Madan Lokur, former Supreme Court Judge, has been appointed as the Chairman of the United Nations High Court Justice Council.
  • The Council will be headed by Justice Madan B. Lokur until his term expires on November 12, 2028.
  • Ms. Carmen Artigas from Uruguay, Ms. Rosalie Balkin from Australia, Mr. Stefan Brezina from Austria and Mr. Jay Pozzenell from the United States of America are the other members of the Council.
  • Justice Lokur was nominated as a Judge of the Supreme Court on June 4, 2012.
  • He stepped down on December 30, 2018, when he reached the age of retirement.
