India's first battery energy storage system

  • India's first battery energy storage system will be operational in March this year at Kilokri in South Delhi.
  • This will be India's first commercial utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS).
  • It is a 20 megawatt (MW)/40 megawatt hour (MWh) cluster of batteries.
  • It can supply power for four hours a day, two hours during the day and two hours at night.
  • It is part of BSES Rajdhani's power sub-station at Kilokri village in South Delhi.
  • BSES Rajdhani is Delhi's largest power distribution company.
  • It is a joint venture between the Reliance Group and the Delhi government.
