India's first organic fish cluster

  • Union Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Ranjan Singh inaugurated India's first organic fisheries cluster in Sikkim.
  • The organic fish cluster in Sikkim's Soreng district will boost farmers' income and promote sustainability in aquaculture.
  • Its main objective is to sell antibiotic, chemical and pesticide-free organic fish.
  • Ranjan Singh also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 50 key projects worth Rs 50 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
  • The organic fisheries cluster will focus on ecologically healthy fish farming systems avoiding chemicals, antibiotics and pesticides.
