• The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Georgia malaria-free.

• The only country in the WHO European Region where malaria still exists is Turkey.

• Georgia achieved malaria-free certification after decades of efforts and a nearly century-long struggle.

• With this malaria-free status, Georgia joins 45 other countries and one territory.

• Before the 20th century, three parasite species were prevalent in Georgia, making malaria a persistent problem there.
