- World Theatre Day is celebrated every year on 27 March.
- It is celebrated with the aim to recognize and celebrate the value and significance of the art form “Theatre”.
- The theme of World Theatre Day 2025 is “Theatre and a Culture of Peace”.
- In 1961, the International Theatre Institute (ITI) established World Theatre Day.
- The World Theatre Day was proposed by ITI founder Arvi Kivimaa at the organisation’s ninth global conference in Helsinki, Finland.
- The proposal was unanimously approved and the first World Theatre Day was celebrated on 27 March 1962.
