- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of the tenure of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Ravi Agarwal till June 30, 2026.
- The re-employment will be on contract from July 1, 2025, under the usual terms and conditions for re-employed officers.
- Aggarwal, a 1988 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, took over on July 1, 2024, with effect from September 30, 2024, his superannuation date.
- The earlier contractual tenure up to June 30, 2025 had already been approved and has now been extended by another year.
- Aggarwal replaced Nitin Gupta in June 2024, and brings with him extensive administrative experience to the post.
