- India's first removable solar panel has been installed as a pilot project at the Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) premises in Varanasi.
- The pilot project is part of Indian Railways' move towards sustainable and green energy practices.
- The 70-metre long stretch has 28 panels installed which will produce up to 15 kW of power.
- The panels are designed to be durable, efficient and removable for maintenance and seasonal needs.
- The project did not require land acquisition as the panels are installed between the railway tracks.
- BLW General Manager Naresh Pal Singh said that 20% of the energy requirement at BLW is already being met through solar energy.
