- On August 5, 2025, the Rajya Sabha passed a resolution to extend the period of President's rule in Manipur by another six months.
- The extension comes after the Lok Sabha approved the same resolution a week ago.
- The resolution was introduced in the Upper House by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai.
- Mr Rai pointed out that inter-community tension had erupted in Manipur due to an order of the High Court.
- It was said that only one violent incident has taken place since the imposition of President's rule.
- The resolution was passed amid protests from Opposition members who were demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list in Bihar.
