Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions:

Educational Qualification

  1. Degree in Law from a recognized University or Institution.
  2. Enrolment as an Advocate in the roll of Bar Council of any State or Union Territory in India on the date of advertisement.
  3. Ability to read, write, and speak Bengali (not required for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali).

Age Limit

  • For Advt. No. 19/2023: 23 to 35 years as on 28.12.2023 (born between 29.12.1988 and 28.12.2000).
  • For Advt. No. 9/2024: 23 to 35 years as on 07.12.2024 (born between 08.12.1989 and 07.12.2001).

Age Relaxation:

  • OBC (WB) – 3 years

WBPSC WBJS Syllabus 2025

The West Bengal Judicial Service Examination 2025 will be conducted in three stages – Preliminary Examination, Final Examination, and Personality Test. The syllabus covers a wide range of law and general knowledge topics as per the standard of a Law graduate.

1. Preliminary Examination Syllabus

The Preliminary Exam is an objective-type paper carrying 200 marks with 200 multiple-choice questions. The duration is 2½ hours. The standard of questions will be equivalent to an LL.B. graduate level from a recognized university.

The Final Exam consists of eight compulsory papers and three optional papers (to be chosen from the list below). Each paper carries 100 marks and will be of 3 hours duration.

Note: The standard of Law papers (both compulsory and optional) will be that of the LL.B. Degree of the University of Calcutta. All answers must be written in English or Bengali, except for language papers.

3. Personality Test

The Personality Test will carry 100 marks.

  • The marks of the Preliminary Examination will not be counted in the final merit list.
  • The final merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the Final Examination and Personality Test.
  • No separate qualifying marks are prescribed for individual papers or the Personality Test.
  • Credit will be given for clarity, conciseness, and originality in answers.
