First male Indian cricketer to join a Bash League franchise

  • Ravichandran Ashwin has been confirmed by Sydney Thunder as the first male Indian cricketer to join a Big Bash League franchise.
  • The veteran spinner has signed for the 15th season of the BBL and is scheduled to join camp in early January.
  • His retirement from the Indian Premier League in 2025 makes him available for overseas leagues.
  • Ashwin's international career ends in December 2024 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, after taking 537 Test wickets.
  • Overall, he has taken 765 international wickets in 287 matches across all formats for India.
  • In the IPL, he played 221 matches for five franchises, including CSK, Pune, Delhi, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
  • Ashwin is best remembered for winning two IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings in 2010 and 2011.
