- On August 30, Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated India’s first tempered glass manufacturing facility for mobile devices in Noida.
- The facility has been set up by Optiemus Electronics in collaboration with Corning Incorporated, US.
- The high-quality tempered glass will be produced under the globally recognised brand “Engineered by Corning”.
- The manufactured products will be supplied to both domestic and international markets.
- The Minister said that indigenous tempered glass production is a big boost for Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
- He informed that a Made in India chip is also expected to be launched soon.
- Electronics manufacturing in India has grown six-fold in 11 years to reach a production value of ₹11.5 lakh crore.
- The sector has generated exports worth over ₹3 lakh crore and employment for 25 lakh people.
- Set up with an initial investment of ₹70 crore in Noida, the factory has state-of-the-art infrastructure.
