62nd National Chess Championship

  • Grandmaster P. Iniyan of Tamil Nadu won the 62nd National Chess Championship.
  • The competition was held in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. He remained undefeated throughout the tournament.
  • Iniyan scored 7 wins and 4 draws in 11 rounds.
  • He tied with 15-year-old International Master H. Gautam Krishna of Kerala.
  • Iniyan won the title due to a better Buchholz score. He received a prize of ₹6 lakh for this victory.
  • The Buchholz score is a tie-breaking system used in chess and some other tournaments.
  • Gautam Krishna was awarded ₹5 lakh as the runner-up. Six players scored 8.5 points.
  • Of these, PSPB Grandmaster Sasikiran Krishnan had the best tie-break score. He finished third and won ₹4 lakh.
