Election Commission announces commencement of second phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR)

  • The Election Commission has announced the start of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
  • According to the Election Commission, the SIR will be conducted in 12 states and union territories.
  • This phase includes the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
  • According to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the objective of this revision is to ensure greater accuracy, transparency, and integrity of voter lists.
  • The second phase of the SIR will cover approximately 51 crore registered voters.
  • To facilitate the revision process, voter lists for all 12 states and union territories were frozen at midnight on October 27.
  • Printing of counting forms and training sessions for booth-level officers (BLOs) have begun.
  • Counting activities will begin on November 4 and will continue for a month. These activities will include verification and updating of voter details.
  • The draft voter list will be made public on December 9. The final voter list will be released on February 7.
