Namitbir Singh Walia became International Master in Chess

• Namitbir Singh Walia, a resident of Jalandhar, Punjab, has become an International Master (IM) in chess.

• He finished fourth at the third Annemasse International Masters Tournament in France.

• He began playing chess at the age of six.

• In 2012, at the age of seven, he began coaching and played in the seventh grade.

• He trained under coach Kanwarjeet Singh until 2020 before moving on.

• He also won the Senior State FIDE Rating Open Chess Championship this year.
