• Justice Surya Kant was sworn in as the 53rd Chief Justice of India on November 24, 2025.

• His appointment is expected to focus primarily on constitutional matters and justice system reforms.

• Former CJI B.R. Gavai left his official government vehicle after the swearing-in ceremony and drove a private vehicle to convey awareness on the issue.

• His tenure will be approximately 15 months.

• He hails from Haryana (Hisar) and previously served as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

• He has served as a judge in the Supreme Court since May 2019.
