Mahe, submarine commissioned by the Indian Navy

• The Indian Navy's first Mahe-class anti-submarine warfare shallow water vessel (ASW-SWC), 'Mahe', was commissioned on November 24 at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

• The commissioning was described as a major step towards enhancing indigenous shipbuilding capabilities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Atmanirbhar Bharat) initiative.

• Mahe is built by Cochin Shipyard Limited as the first in a series of eight ships.

• The ship is designed for shallow water operations with advanced technology for anti-submarine warfare, coastal surveillance, and maritime security.

• The ship has over 80% indigenous content, reflecting India's progress in warship design, construction, and systems integration.
