New Director General of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)

• Sanjay Garg, a 1994 batch IAS officer, has assumed charge as Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

• The appointment is effective from November 1.

• BIS serves as India's national standards body.

• Garg has over three decades of administrative experience in various developmental and industrial sectors.

• He previously served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE).

• He also served as Secretary of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

• He led efforts to digitally transform agricultural research administration and services.
