- It was confirmed that his appointment will be effective from November 24, 2025, and he will succeed Justice Surya Kant.
- Justice Surya Kant vacated the post after President Draupadi Murmu sworn him in as the 53rd Chief Justice of India.
- Chief Justice Kant has begun his 14-month tenure, succeeding Justice Bhushan R. Gavai, who retired at the age of 65.
