- International Cheetah Day is celebrated every year on December 4th since 2010.
- To commemorate this day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will release three cheetahs from their enclosures into the wild at Kuno National Park.
- India currently has 32 cheetahs. Of these, 21 are cubs born in India.
- Dr. Laurie Marker is renowned as the creator of International Cheetah Day.
- Dr. Marker is the founder and executive director of the Cheetah Conservation Fund.
- The Cheetah Conservation Fund is a non-governmental organization assisting the Indian government under Project Cheetah.
- Dr. Marker chose December 4th in memory of Khayam, a cheetah she raised as a cub at the Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon, in the 1970s.
- Project Cheetah was launched in September 2022. The initiative aims to reintroduce cheetahs to India.
