  • This day honors the contributions of Indian diaspora to the country.
  • It commemorates Mahatma Gandhi's return to India from South Africa in 1915.
  • The first Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was celebrated in 2003.
  • From 2003 to 2015, the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention was held annually. After 2015, its format was changed to a biennial event.
  • The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention was held from January 8th to 10th, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
  • Its theme was "Contribution of the Diaspora to a Developed India."
