- Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced that Sikkim's Pakyong Airport will be named after freedom fighter Trilochan Pokharel.
- The decision was announced during the 31st foundation day celebrations of the All Sikkim Khas Kshatriya Bahun Kalyan Sangh in Rangpo.
- The name has been proposed in honor of Pokharel, who is considered Sikkim's first freedom fighter.
- His participation in the Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, and the Quit India Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi was highlighted.
- The airport is Sikkim's only airport, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2018.
