Telangana Declared Naxal-Free

  • Telangana DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy announced that the state is now free from the presence of armed Maoists, as 42 cadres of the Communist Party of India (Maoist)—including PLGA commander Sodi Malla—have surrendered.
  • The 42 Maoists surrendered along with 36 weapons, which included five AK-47 rifles, four SLR rifles, two country-made grenades, 1,007 live cartridges of various calibers, and 800 grams of gold.
  • The DGP stated that the police are utilizing the assistance of the surrendered Maoists to detect and defuse IEDs planted by insurgents in various areas.
  • Between 2024 and 2026, a total of 761 Maoists have surrendered to the Telangana Police, along with 302 weapons.
