Air Marshal Tarun Chaudhry Assumes Command of Central Air Command

  • As part of a leadership transition within the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal Tarun Chaudhri assumed charge as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the Central Air Command on June 1, 2026.
  • He succeeded Air Marshal Balakrishnan Manikantan, who retired on May 31, 2026, after completing four decades of distinguished service in the Indian Air Force. 
  • This appointment is regarded as a significant step towards further strengthening the operational leadership of the Air Force.
  • The Central Air Command is one of the most critical operational commands of the Indian Air Force, with its headquarters located in Prayagraj. 
  • This Command plays a pivotal role in coordinating air defense and military operations across the central and northern regions of the country.
  • Air Marshal Tarun Chaudhri was commissioned into the Fighter Stream of the Indian Air Force in December 1989. Over a military career spanning more than 36 years, he has held numerous key operational, administrative, and strategic responsibilities.
  • Prior to assuming leadership of the Central Air Command, he served as the Senior Air Staff Officer at the Headquarters of the Southern Air Command. 
  • Given his extensive experience and leadership capabilities, he has been entrusted with the responsibility of this vital Air Force Command.
